Responsibilities And Duties

  • Interact with the public regarding moving violations, domestic issues, crimes committed, & citizen concerns
  • Investigate crimes, identify suspects, & correspond with victims
  • Serve legal documents
  • Participate in court hearings by providing security measures and/or oral testimony
  • Prepare reports, memos, and correspondence which are both intra & interdepartmental in nature
  • Refer individuals to the proper agencies & provide other types of related guidance
  • Initiate inquiries concerning possible law violations of adults or juveniles
  • Obtain, present, verify, & analyze factual information and other evidence
  • Make arrests if probable cause is determined
  • Take suspects into custody & inform suspect of their civil rights
  • Seize and/or prepare property for safekeeping
  • Operate County vehicles in a safe manner; in compliance with all Missouri laws & regulations
  • Assist with motor vehicle accidents and/or other medical emergencies as necessary

Qualifications And Skills

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Seven-hundred (700) hours of basic certification and twenty-four (24) hours of continuing training annually
  • Twenty-one (21) years of age
  • Maintain Missouri P.O.S.T Police officer certification and adhere to P.O.S.T training requirements
