- W ork is accomplished under the direction o f a supervisor, within policy and
- procedures o f Taney County S h e riffs Office, but judgm ent and initiative are frequently
- exercised.
Responsibilities And Duties

- Guard prisoners/inm ates assuming responsibility for all needs o f
- prisoners/inmates during detention or transportation.
- Function as a patrol deputy interfacing
- directly with the public on moving violations, domestic issues, crimes committed, and various
- other citizen concerns. M ay investigate crimes, interface with victims, severe legal documents,
- participate in court hearing providing security measures or oral testimony.
- Prepare reports, issue memos, and write correspondence which are both intra and
- interdepartmental in nature; refer individuals to the proper agencies and provides other types o f
- guidance, etc.
- Initiate inquires concerning possible law violations o f adults or juveniles; obtains, presents,
- verifies, and analyzes factual information and other evidence. Make arrests by determining if
- there is probable cause. Identifies the suspect; takes suspect into custody and informs suspect o f
- his civil rights. Seizes and/or prepares property for safekeeping.
- Operate a m otor vehicle in a safe m anner and in compliance with all Missouri laws and
- regulations.
- Perform traffic enforcem ent and assist with m otor vehicle accidents and other
- medical em ergencies as necessary. Required to maintain Missouri P.O.S.T Police officer
- certification and adhere to P.O.S.T training requirements.
Qualifications And Skills

- High School Diplom a or GED required. Seven Hundred (700) hr. basic
- certification plus forty-eight (48) hours continuing training. M ust be Power Phone Certified and
- Dual State Certified. M ust be twenty-one (21) years o f age to be a Deputy.

Employee Contributions

- Non-LAGERS participants are also required to make a 0.7% contribution to the 401(a) plan.
- LAGERS participants hired on or after February 25, 2002 contribute 4% of gross salary.
Vesting And Retirement

- Members become vested after eight years of continuous creditable service during which they receive pay for at least 1,000 hours in each year.
- A vested member is eligible for a full benefit at age 62 or an actuarially reduced benefit as early as age 55.
- If an employee leaves county service before vesting, employee contributions are refunded or may be rolled over to another eligible retirement plan.
