Taney County Citizen Sheriff's Academy Application

TANEY COUNTY CITIZEN’S ACADEMY

One Monday evening a week from 6 PM to 9PM over the course of 11 weeks

March 3rd, 2026 through May 12th, 2025

Primary location: Taney County Sheriff’s Office

The goal of the Taney County Citizen Sheriff’s Academy is to provide citizens of Taney County insight into
the services provided by the Sheriff’s Office and to help foster a sense of communication and
cooperation within our community.

The Citizens Academy will offer multiple mini classes, delivered by law enforcement personnel from
throughout the Sheriff’s Office, hands on experiences, and insight into real world law enforcement
functions. Attendees will be given a tour of the courthouse, sheriff’s office, and jail facility and will be
invited to participate in a ride along with a patrol deputy.

Course topics include but are not limited to:

1. Administration/ Organization of the Sheriff’s Office
2. Patrol Operations
3. Civil Process/ Records
4. Criminal Investigations/ Crime Scene Processing
5. 911 Communications
6. Jail Operations
7. Court Security Operations
8. Traffic/ DWI Enforcement
9. Tactical Operations
10. Civilian Response to Active Threats
11. Basic First Aid

It is the hope of the Taney County Sheriff’s Office that students graduating from the Citizens Academy
will gain a clearer understanding of law enforcement services and advocate in support of law
enforcement sponsored activities and programs within the community.

The Citizens Academy will be limited to 16 attendees. Applications are available on the sheriff’s office
page on the Taney County website taneycounty.org. Email completed applications to Sergeant Jeremy
Wilson at Jeremy.wilson@taneycountymo.gov. Basic requirements to apply are as follows:

1. Resident of Taney County
2. At least 21 years of age
3. Have own transportation to and from academy classes
4. Commitment to attend all twelve classes
5. Must pass a thorough background check, which will include criminal history, driver’s license
status and warrant checks. (must have no criminal record)
