DEPUTY SHERIFF
TANEY COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT

Candidates must be available to work any shift day or night, including holidays

JOB SUMMARY:
Perform skilled, complicated, and confidential law enforcement work to protect life and property; enforce Federal,
State, and local laws; and detect and apprehend violators. Work is accomplished under the direction of a supervisor,
within the policy & procedures of the Taney County Sheriff’s Office, but judgment and initiative are frequently
exercised.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
 Interact with the public regarding moving violations, domestic i ssues, crimes committed, & citizen concerns
 Investigate crimes, identify suspects, & correspond with victims
 Serve legal documents
 Participate in court hearings by providing security measures and/or oral testimony
 Prepare reports, memos, and correspondence which are both intra & interdepartmental in nature
 Refer individuals to the proper agencies & provide other types of related guidance
 Initiate inquiries concerning possible law violations of adults or juveniles
 Obtain, present, verify, & analyze factual information and other evidence
 Make arrests if probable cause is determined
 Take suspects into custody & inform suspect of their civil rights
 Seize and/or prepare property for safekeeping
 Operate County vehicles in a safe manner; in compliance with all Missouri laws & regulations
 Assist with motor vehicle accidents and/or other medical emergencies as necessary

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
 High School Diploma or GED preferred
 Seven-hundred (700) hours of basic certification and twenty-four (24) hours of continuing training annually
 Twenty-one (21) years of age
 Maintain Missouri P.O.S.T Police officer certification and adhere to P.O.S.T training requirements

SALARY: $ 19.26 per hour STATUS: Full Time
