To the Election Authority:

This 2016 Presidential Preference Prim ary Election Certification o f Candidates and Party
Em blem s booklet contains the list o f names and addresses o f candidates entitled to be voted for
at the M arch 2016 presidential preference primary election. Party emblems for the four
established political parties are also included. This certification booklet is provided in accordance
w ith 115.765, RSM o.

As a local election authority, M issouri law requires you to com plete the following:

1. P u b lish N otice in N ew spaper (Section 115.389, RSM o.): You m ust publish, under
proper party designations, the title o f each office, nam e and address o f each candidate to
be voted on in your jurisdiction, primary election date, and hours the poll will be open in
a new spaper o f general circulation w ithin your jurisdiction.
2. P re p a re , S en d , a n d P o st S am ple B allots (Section 115.391, RSM o.): You must prepare
sam ple official ballots no later than the fourth Tuesday before the prim ary election.
Im m ediately after preparing the sample ballots, you m ust m ail the sample ballot to each
candidate named on the ballot and to each county chairperson within your jurisdiction.
You m ust also post a copy o f each sample ballot in a conspicuous place in your office.
3. B a llo t P re p a ra tio n : Refer to Sections 115.237,115.395, and 115.767, R SM o., for ballot
preparation requirements. Ballots m ust list the candidates in the order listed in this
Certification booklet. Section 115.395, R SM o., requires a separate ballot for each party
participating in the primary election. Finally, Section 115.767, RSM o., requires you to
include a line for “uncom mitted” votes follow ing the list o f certified candidates in each
party ballot.
