JOB POSTING
TITLE: Victim/Witness Advocate
This position will rem ain posted until filled. Applications must be received by August 14, 2015.
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision o f the Prosecuting A ttorney’s Office M anager, the Victim/W itness
Advocate shall be responsible for meeting with victims o f any and all types o f crimes and
providing support and direction to victim s and assisting them during the court process.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Refer victim s o f abuse to shelter and encourage them to seek medical help if needed. M eet with
families o f child abuse and/or m urder victim s and provide support and direction. Encourage all
victim s to seek help by referring them to support groups, counselors, pastors, etc..
Assist victim s in com pleting and subm itting the required paperwork for Crime V ictim ’s
Compensation. Compose and mail written correspondence to inform victims o f court dates and
pertinent case information.
Explain the court process, prepare victim s to testify in court and attend court hearings when
necessary. Act as moral support while sitting with victims who are awaiting a court proceeding
on their case. M eet with the Prosecutor to review cases and with Probation and Parole to assist
in the preparation o f Sentencing A ssessm ent Reports.
M aintain current victim inform ation and gather restitution verification when necessary. Upon
sentencing to the M issouri D epartm ent o f Corrections, connect the victim with the DOC Victim
U nit so that they can be notified o f parole hearings.
REQUIREMENTS:
B achelor’s degree from a four (4) year college/university preferred, but not required. Training in
understanding The Cycle o f Violence is preferred and prior experience as an advocate is
preferred, but not required.
SALARY: $15.00 per hour STATUS: Full time, 40 hours per week
