Press Release
Taney County Is Hosting Sunshine Law Workshops
Taney County, Missouri –

The Taney County Commission has confirmed that the Attorney General Public Education
Director, Tom Durkin, who has provided education on the Sunshine Law to public officials in almost
every county of Missouri in the past year, will provide two (2) Sunshine Law Workshops on April
13th and 14th, 2011. Attorney General, Koster appointed Tom Durkin as Public Education Director
last year to travel the state giving presentations and seminars to state, city and county agencies on
Missouri’s open meetings and records law, known as the “Sunshine Law.” Since Sunshine Week
last March, Durkin has traveled to 109 of Missouri’s 114 counties, plus the City of St. Louis, giving
172 presentations.

Taney County believes compliance with the Sunshine Law is an essential component of good
government, and the Commission’s office is committed to doing all it can to ensure that local
government officials and Boards know what they need to do to be in full compliance with the
Sunshine Law.

"The Sunshine Law details can be complicated, but the intent is clear - government must operate
in a manner that is open and visible to its citizens," Durkin said. "I believe our education efforts on
the Sunshine Law have led to more transparent government across the state of Missouri."

The 1st Sunshine Law Workshop scheduled is April 13th, 6pm at the Taney County Graham Airport
near the College of the Ozarks campus.

The 2nd Sunshine Law Workshop scheduled is April 14th, 10am at the Taney County Courthouse
Commission Hearing Room, Forsyth, Mo.

All political entities including Cities, Villages, Schools, Fire and Water Districts etc. are encouraged
to attend.
